This is a first book of a series. The series captures all of the nuances of small town life in Montana. In this story, tensions grow between long time residents and "refugees" from Hollywood, as they try to live "side by side." The pressure is on, when the towns prominent citizens start turning up dead and the local rookie sheriff, Jules, has to solve the murders. The characters and the setting are very likeable and the plot line is well written. A very enjoyable borderline "cosy" mystery!

Good story -- somewhere between soft boiled and a cozy.
A neat mystery set in Big Sky country - a lot of oddball characters.
Blue Deeer is a small town boasting an uneasy mix of longtime residents and hotshots from both coasts looking to posess their own piece of the Blue Sky. Local sheriff manages the towns tensions fairly well until someone blasts a hole in George Blackwater's office window - and in George. As more citizens turn up dead, the pressure on Jules keeps rising. Looks as if this rookie sheriff may not survive the next election...if he lives to see it.

Good story with interesting characters.
For those of us whose every day is off-kilter, Jamie Harrison has created the ideal town with the perfect sheriff: Jules Clement, Ph.D., of Blue Deer, Montana. Home after a decade of archeological exploration, Jules finds that the duties of a small-town sheriff are more dangerous than excavating in Tunisia or Turkey, because in Montana he has to cope with sibling rivalry, nouveau riche newcomers, duck killers, naked men peeing in the town park, and memories of his father's murder twenty years earlier.
