I love the way Diane Tyrrel submerges herself - and the reader - in her settings. This book made me want to move, lock, stock, and barrel to the Sierras. The house is fascinating; you can tell she has done her research and has a love of old houses, beautiful woodwork, well-designed and built. The other book I read by Tyrell also impressed me by the Gothic, but not-gothic plot - and the women being of a more 21st-cent mindset, more apt to dropkick a guy rather than back up trembling in fear, or run off along a crumbling cliff. It was quite a page turner, with quite a handsome hero!
And right now I am going to order the one I haven't read yet - The Inn at Halfmoon Bay...

A GREAT MYSTERY, EVERYTIME I THOUGHT I FIGURED OUT WHO DONE IT I WAS WRONG, NEVER FIGURED IT AT TIL THE END
In the grand tradition of Victoria Holt and Barbara Michaels - a dazzling tale of a thoroughly modern woman who falls in love with the house of her dreams only to have it turn into her ultimate nightmare.

Stacey falls in love with a rambling manor and buys it. She likes the fact that it's hours from work, on the edge of a forest, and her intriguing neighbor Brand. Then she starts getting threatening notes, phone hang-ups, harassment. Someone will stop at nothing to get her to leave--permanently.
I did not read this one. My mother loved it though. the back says "Classy, sexy, and deliciously suspenseful. Don't miss it!" - Linda Castillo
