Very poorly written! I am surprised it was ever even published. The story itself was fine, but there was no introduction to the characters nor was there a conclusion to the story. It seemed to me that this was just a kind of "episode" in which we are expected to fully know the characters already, and then we are left hanging at the end wondering what happens next (as I said-there is no conclusion, it just ends). I would be interested in it as a series, but there was no indication anywhere throughout the book to tell us that the story will be continued, or even if it was the first or fifth or tenth book in a series. Don't waste your time with this one.

While exploring a bombed and ruined city slum, Roland and his companions are drawn into the twilight realm of Elidor. There, from Malebron the King, they learn that an evil power threatens his land and that their entry into Elidor has unleashed the Darkness as foretold by the prophesies.

The web of fate has been woven, and they are incapable of escaping the mysterious evil power that now threatens them, as well as Elidor...

It seemed to me like the author took elements from many popular stories and combined them to put together a new story. Kind of the Narnia series meets Tolkein's works meets a modern-day fantasy.

A strange little book with a very slim story. Some of the phrases and language, perhaps because of them being of British origin, I could not quite get the hang of. The ending is so abrupt that you might think that several chapters were removed.
