Here's installment #3 in Knief's tribute to John D. MacDonald's "Travis McGee" ['color'] series. Our hero, John Caine, faces numerous opponents for the sake of a lovely lady. The action is fast and deadly, and faithful readers will find the characters more three-dimensional this time around. Love, hate, mistrust, deception, and life-decisions-in-waiting drive the story. I think even the late, great John D. would be pleased with "Flash." Truly faithful readers of MacDonald will discover a fine tip-of-the-hat to an early novel ("A Flash of Green," non-Travis despite the color reference), as Knief explains his "Emerald" title in the first few pages.
This is a strong and unstoppable read, highly recommended. (-Jim)
