The End of The Affair
The End of The Affair
Author: Graham Greene
Chekhov once suggested that a writer could best convey the effect of moonlight by describing it reflected in a broken bottle on a river's edge. Graham Greene here deals with love in like fashion: an adulterous love affair, a love which turns to hate, and a hate which turns at last to a bitter acknowledgment of God.

This book was inspired by Graham Greene's life. As usual, he masterfully creates a story that exposes the heart of a person's relationship with God, through pain and rebellion. Bendrix carries on an adulterous love affair with Sarah, until she realizes she cannot sin any more and breaks it off. Bendrix is very bitter, until he runs into Sarah's husband again, and is pulled back into their lives. Slowly he comes to realize what has changed Sarah's life, and must decide what he will do with God.
