Basic premise is that growing brains are physically shaped by experience. Because "today's" children (written in 1991, probably even more true today), they develop different habits of thinking than we did back when education was perfect.

This book helped me understand why each generation is different from the other and why it's so important to give our children the right kinds of things to do and to think about. A must read for both teachers and parents.
