Wow! This is a must read book, both for people who think our country is going to hell in a hand basket, and perhaps even more for those who think this country is (finally) on the right track. Riveting! Incredible! Every page contains concise explanations that make the reader want to carry this book with them everywhere, because none of us can every say these things as succinctly and clearly as Mr. Carter has!

This is an excellent book on the REAL state of the union. I am highly impressed with the Christian View of the world from all angles without a biased agenda!

A Nobel laureate conducts thought-provoking discussion of such topics as the rise of religious fundamentalism, conflicts between science and religion, Church and State, the subservience of women, terrorism, and more. This is a truly intelligent, enlightened, well-reasoned treatment of a number of basic issues that are important to all Americans.

A book by Jimmy Carter about this nation's basic moral values and political philosophy.
President Carter offers a personal consideration of "moral values" as they relate to the important issues of the day.
Published in 2005, this book is an amazing reflection on many of the important issues faced by the United States in recent years. Given President Carter's deep religious background, his faith and values inform his discussion of the topics. Even read from a post-evangelical, and even post-religion viewpoint, the wisdom conveyed in this book deserves serious respect and consideration. I highly recommend it, especially for those who have, in the past, been involved in or had interaction with the evangelical movement. Carter has so much intellectual, moral and spiritual depth, and in light of the past few decades, it is remarkable that he was once our president and leader.
I've always thought Jimmy Carter was the greatest human rights president we've had, but I didn't know he was a Southern Baptist. He addresses the big social and economic issues through the lens as a Christian and as a politician. As someone who's grown up without religion and a firm believer in separation of church and state, I really enjoyed learning about his experiences with morals and ethics before, during, and after his presidency. I always love reading books that I agree and disagree with, and this was a perfect balance. A really amazing and quick read.
Wow! This is a must read (or in this case, listen to) book, both for people who think our country is going to hell in a hand basket, and perhaps even more for those who think this country is (finally) on the right track. I LOVED this book. A frank look at the disastorous Bush regime, from some one who's been there, done that.
