This is absolutely the most gruesome, sick, twisted book that I have ever read! It is about a sixteen-year-old girl named Jody who nearly gets slaughtered by a group of killers, the Krulls, while sleeping over at her friend Evelyn's house. Jody manages to escape along with Evelyn's little brother, Andy, while Simon, one of the Krull members, is left behind. Simon's job is to finish off the witnesses or else his girlfriend and his family will be next. Simon becomes obsessed with Jody and can't wait to get to her. I am a big fan of horror novels and this one gave me the chills! It kept my pulse racing, yet I couldn't stop turning the pages, had to find out how it ended. Laymon does not hold back, no lack in details with this one, extremely graphic. If this book were to be made into a movie, I'm not not sure I could stomach watching it, it's that disgusting. If you have a heart condition, do not read this book! It was my first Richard Laymon read, but it definitely won't be the last!

Grabs you from the beginning. But be warned -- quite a graphic - grotesque book.

Very easy book to read! i LOVE when books start off with a bang as this one did even better when it keeps that pace throuhout the entire book! Highly reccomemd this one if your a horror fan ...its a typical LAymon book...gore, sex and more gore and sex!
Good, but very violent and scary. Not for the faint hearted!

Another great Laymon book!!
This was a twisted horror tale that you won't forget very easily..It's the kind of tale that stays with you..Could not put this book down,, could not wait to see what happens next...A great horror book
GENRE---HORROR!
I have to admit that I may not be scoring this book fairly by giving it an average rating. It IS well-written, and the characters are believably depicted---TOO believably.
I couldn't finish the book because I was afraid it would give me nightmares for months to come.
A group of young men go out on a thrill-kill spree. (This is their 'hobby'!) One nasty punk gets a major hard-on for a girl who managed to escape during one gory kill-night, and he determines to get her.

One of his best!
Pretty creepy book. It started off with a bang and had me hooked. For most part the rest of the book was fast paced as well. It was really a gruesome book and had me pretty grossed out through much of it but that kind of stuff doesn't bother me. If it bothers you then this is not a book you'll want to read.
It's about a girl named Jody who is having a sleepover at her friend's house. She ends up witnessing the death of her friend and her parents. Only her and her friend's little brother, Andy, survive. Now they are witnesses to the crime and the creeps who committed them won't stop until they are out of the picture.
What I liked most about the book is you get what is happening with the victims then it goes to the point of view of one of the killers. You get to see inside his sick and depraved mind and see how he doesn't really see the world as most others do but is still able to pass himself off as pretty normal. Very creepy. Laymon does and excellent job at seeing into this killer's mind. Did this book scare me? No but it did creep me out. This is my first Laymon book. Can't wait to read more!

Hang on for blood, guts, gore and sex--you won't put it down until the end.
This was my first Richard Laymon read, and I was very disappointed. I may have a different taste, as I did not find it to be that graphic at all, although for the casual horror fan I could see some spots that might cause uneasiness. I was very let down after the reviews I read.
Perhaps I was put off by his writing style the entire time to actually enjoy the story. He writes like a fifteen-year-old trying to gross out his friends, and it comes off amateurish and lazy. Most of the book is filler, with a disappointing few moments of actual good plotting. Maybe I need to try another Laymon book to see what all the hype is about.

Laymon novels are a guilty pleasure for me. They are disgusting and you pretty much have to throw your brains out the window in order to get through them but I have to honestly say they are very much page-turners. If you enjoy senseless murder and mayhem, that is.
This one starts out with a sixteen year old girl named Jody sleeping over a friend's house. Innocent enough stuff, until a murderous group of madmen target the home for their next killing spree. Jody survives and manages to escape the home with her friend's younger brother. As they make their escape they are spotted by the murderous louts who slaughtered the family and a chase begins. A chase which encompasses the rest of the book. As expected of a Laymon novel, there is plenty of murder, mayhem, rape and other assorted grossities as well as many plot implausibilities and silly dialogue. A very guilty pleasure type of book that'll whisk you right out of reality.

This book was totally disturbing! Laymon has a twisted mind, but yet he writes in a way that you just have to keep reading to see what happens next.
This book is about a 16 year old that witnesses a murder at her friends house. In the book she has to stay one step ahead of the killers.

This author was recommended to me and this was my first book I read by him. Not a favorite but not disappointing. I liked the main characters Jody and Andy and Laymon giving them an actual moment to become real. For them surviving the night of terror and become instantly close, I believe that would happen. Thru all the maddness in the bad that relationship was what kept me reading. I even felt that Simon was true to himself as well, psycho (lol). Other reviews pointed out the violence and graphic nature of the book, true, but at least I did not get nauseous as with reading JF Gonzalez, If you want an in between Stephen King and Dean Koontz I'd go with Laymon. He creates his definite own world, creepy as it is. Other authors to consider for ultimate in gross-out factor: JF Gonzalez and Brian Keene.

This was the first Laymon book I've read--and, wow, it was just as sick as I had been warned! :) I liked the story line and I really liked the characters, especially the strong female protagonist. I look forward to reading more of his books.
Jody is pretty tough for a sixteen-year old girl. That's the only reason she's still alive - for now. She was sleeping over at her friend Evelyn's house when a group of killers broke in and tried to slaughter everyone. She saw Evelyn spitted on a spear, but Jody managed to escape, along with Evelyn's little brother, Andy.
Simon was one of the killers that gruesome night. His friends have left it up to him to find the only living witnesses to their massacre. Or else they'll butcher his family next. But Simon has his own reasons for wanting to get his hands on Jody...

Recommended to me by a fan of his with a caution that it was graphic. And it was a bit too graphic for my taste. And when my favorite character met an untimely demise at the end, I was devastated. I have one more of Richard Laymon's books on my TBR shelf, and will give him another try, but I'm not optimistic that I will become a fan of this genre for the same reason I don't watch slasher movies. Don't need that!!
