Matthias is paired with Garrett (Wren's right hand man from book #1 The Fixer) to look into the murder of the brother he never knew he had. Kayla has been running for 7 years after her friends were murdered in their house and she was one of the suspects. Changing identities over the years to escape the past has left her distrustful and paranoid. Matthias and Garrett are hot on her trail and stake her out as they hang around the diner she works at. Matthias gets to know her a little and is attracted but unsure since she might have murdered his brother. The banter between the three of them, the awkward conversations, and the attraction grows along with threats and danger. Matthias will stop at nothing to find the truth and get the girl. Kayla is ready to ditch and run but there's something about Matthias.
