On the one hand, this book introduces the reader to a wide range of spiritual thinkers from different places, traditions, and times - so in that sense, it is a worthwhile read.
However, Mitchell is a translator, not a scholar of religions. He offers tiny morsels of text, taken out of any context but his own brief (arguably misleading) comments.
Read this book to discover new thinkers and texts to explore more deeply elsewhere - but do not read this book for an education in comparative religion, because it will not provide that.
