This is quite simply the funniest book I have read in years. I read it in 2 days and would have finished it even sooner if I didn't have to actually eat, work and sleep! Coming of age the same time as the author, and from the same general area (me/Long Island, she/N.J. - only about a centemeter different in 80's permed hair height...)really hit home, and I found myself laughing hard and loudly throughout the entire book.

An enjoyable, fun memoir of a Jersey girl, her family, and writing at Rolling Stone magazine. Very cute.

A good read for planes, trains, automobiles, or the beach. The chapters alternate between her background - a childhood spent in suburban Middle Class New Jersey (Joisey?) to becoming a rock star reporter in New York for Rolling Stone - and her sardonic insights on how to interview actual rock stars. The family & bad boyfriend stuff was mostly a total snooze, but the smartass chapters on the wiles and machinations of getting surly, hungover rock gods and the rich & famous to open up make this a worthwhile read. You'll learn tactics such as the Contrived Activity which is key to a good interview, how to find the member of the entourage with loose lips, and why booze is at least as important as your tape recorder.

I enjoyed this book. It was very funny. The chapters would alternate between the authors life and childhood to her encounters with celebrities during her MTV VJ and Rolling Stone reporter days.

I highly recommend this book. It feels like a girlfriend telling you one interesting (and usually really funny) story after another. I also enjoyed the celebrity insights thrown in here and there.

This book made me laugh out loud. Although I didn't grow up in Jersey, I related to a lot of the 80's references. A light, easy read that doesn't take too much thought. A great vacation book. Hilarious!

It's a great read, an autobiography about a girl who becomes a writer for Rolling Stone Magazine, and all the rock stars she meets along the way. The best parts of the book are the sections before each chapter where she gives a "How To Interview Someone Famous" vignette. For example, she mentions what subjects and questions to avoid so she won't get "the dreaded pre-rehearsed responses." And how to throw in unexpected questions that throw the star off balance and get them talking: "What was your worse high school job? What day did you see your parents differently?"
It's a fun book that gives insight into a life few of us are allowed to see, with lots of tidbits about everyone in the music world, from Madonna to Dolly Parton to Beyonce.

Not bad!
The chapters starting out with her interview tips dragged on a little long for me- I wanted to jump into the biography part- tell me about you and your family and friends!
But once it got rolling, I couldn't put it down.
I loved the sharing of memories of the perm hair, the 1980 references, and the sharing of celebrity tid bits, without getting too down and dirty and detailed.
This woman knows how to write! and to make you smile, laugh and relate.
A good read!

This book was a pleasant surprise. It was really, really funny! The chapters alternate between the author's life story, and behind-the-scenes details of her celebrity interviews. It read like a cross between Us Magazine and a PG-13 Chelsea Handler book. Cheesy fun.
