Another great DiscWorld novel. In this book we meet several new characters. First is Granny Weatherwax a witch who is really good at heart and takes on the task of teaching the first female wizard in the history of DiscWorld. When a powerful wizard makes the mistake of passing his powers on to the eighth son of an eighth son, right before dying, only to find out that the son is a daughter, Granny takes on the task of teaching the child witchcraft, since women are not wizards. Needless to say that Esk, the 9 year old female wizard has other plans. lol

Overall a wonderful, engrossing story. I love Esk and hope that we see much more of her as she grows up as well as Granny Weahterwax who single handedly changes the ways of Wizards.

Introduction to very interesting new Pratchett characters, not as amusing as first 2 Discworld books, but still good.

Pratchett takes on the gender wars. Or skrmishes. Or something like that. Still, it is amusing to see Granny Weatherwax deal with the Unseen University and its inhabitants.

I really enjoyed this Discworld book, even more than the first two I read. While there is a feminist undertone to the story, it is done in a fun and playful manner, which is refreshing in a book that deals with women's rights. I liked how Pratchett had the characters in the book realize on their own that Esk should be a wizard despite all of their feelings otherwise. I wish that more people in the real world were open to reexamining their beliefs when faced with evidence that they may be wrong. Overall the book was a fun easy read and I look forward to continuing reading novels set in Pratchett's Discworld.

I loved this, of course! I've actually read this twice before, but it's been so long ago that I only remembered the first half of the book. That's one benefit of grad school having destroyed my memory: books I love can be like new again! This was a fun little adventure and I'm always up for a story that parodies gender stereotypes, especially if that story firmly lands on the side of equality. I don't think I've seen Esk turn up in any of the other Discworld books I've read, but there are a lot I haven't read, so I'm hoping I might run across her again. She was great.

The beginning of the discworld witches books. Very funny, very satirical. Made me laugh out loud several times.

The whole discworld series is such a fun read. An adventurous romp through an impossible world. It's lighthearted, but engaging enough to keep you reading at night long after you should have turned out the light!

This is my favorite book of all time, through my travels it comes with me. Terry Pratchett does a great job of getting you to question the gender equality issues.

As you may know, Terry Pratchett tends to write his Discworld novels about groups of characters. This one features Granny Weatherwax and some of the (Pre-Ridcully) Unseen University characters.

The first time I read this book, I enjoyed it, but wasn't terribly impressed. (Bear in mind, I tend to prefer the books about the City Watch or Death.) But yesterday when I re-read it, I found myself snickering and chortling quite a bit.

This tale explores the magic theory of Discworld, i.e., how the magic of Wizzards and Witches is different. It also shines a bit of light on Granny Weatherwax's past, so if you like that character (I do.), then I highly recommend it. Also, if you happen to hang around with Neo-Pagans (in real life) I think you'd find it particularly hilarious.

Equal Rites was my first trip into Prachett's Discworld. The world the author creates is different, quirky and familiar. The book is a very enjoyable read.

I absolutely love the Discworld Series and this book is even better than the last book. Fun and the best kind of humor, silly and still manages to be some kind of smart.

In Equal Rites, a dying wizard tries to pass on his powers to an eight son of an eight son, who is just at that moment being born. The fact that the son is actually a daughter is discovered just a little too late...

Terry Pratchett is extremely clever and utterly irreverent. His books are completely fun!

Terry Pratchett has a fun take on the misogyny present in many fantasy books by showing the trials of a girl wizard trying to join a wizard academy.
