I came across an archive of the series escape, 11 cds of shows. Each show is a half hour, short stories and condensed retellings of material created by classic authors. the show started in 1947, and went for 7 years. Escape was CBS's adventure anthology series, featuring the short stories of many famous authors, for example HG wells, among others. Great stuff. Skip the first two pilot episodes. http://archive.org/details/OTRR_Certified_Escape Click on the HTTP listing of the zip files to download. Each CD will take some time to download. I also found an adventure tale, Moon over Africa, an indiana jones style story from 1935. About 5 hours. http://archive.org/details/OTRR_Certified_Moon_Over_Africa Not as good, but the first 6 episodes are worth listening too, is a short series called I Love Adventure. http://archive.org/details/I_Love_Adventure shortly over 1000 shows were produced during the golden age of radio, with an estimated 10,000 or so episodes. Radio drama is a lost art. It is good to know that some of these shows are available and enjoy! If audiobooks were produced like the old radio plays, they would make listening even more interesting. It is sad we are not producing material like this anymore.
