I did enjoy this book. I was surprised since I am generally burnt out on paranormal romance books but it is clear that Ms. Wright can create an interesting story. Here, the two main characters Alexander and Sarah cross paths when Alexander shows up on her doorstep (literally). He has just gone into premature Morpho (turning into a mate seeking, blood ravaged, and sun-avoiding vampire) and uses Sarahs shadowed porch for protection from the sun. Is it just a coincidence that he ends up at Sarahs doorstop or fate? Youll have to find out on your own.
There is much more to the story than one vampire meeting one human female. It definitely confused me at the beginning but once I caught on to the names being used, it was a bit easier.

What I liked about the book-
The three brothers. Ms. Wright quickly establishes three very different characters but it was clear the brothers loved and cared for each other.
The story. The story was complex and different from every other vampire story out there.
The sex scenes. Wow, I can see Ms. Wright has some experience writing sex scenes because they are smoking!

What I didnt like about the story-
The story. Yeah, I know. I have that in the like category above. Nevertheless, while the story is complex, it was also confusing. There was the Impure, the Pure, the Morpho, and the not Morpho yet, there is the Order and the little vampire communities. It was a lot to remember and I am not sure how many people wanting a PR will invest that much time into learning the background.
The cover. Dear Publishers, please get rid of these cheesy half naked man covers UNLESS 1) the man on the cover looks like at least one of the characters in the book (he does not), 2) the man on the cover fairly represents the species in the book (they are vampires, I dont think a fence is going to hold him back) and 3) the man on the cover is wearing realistic attire (what is up with this waist high jeans with a belt of all things. You would think he would at least be wearing sexy hip hugging jeans that show off a six-pack. A belt, really? Come on, he is a vampire, he can use magic to hold up his pants!)

A new take on the same old story. Liked characters, hot sex scenes, nice build up to the romance. A bit slow at the start - at page 100 wondering if they were ever going to get anywhere. I do wish author had included an "Eternal Breed" glossary. Lots of special terms and not a complete explanation of what it all means. I can't tell if author intends to keep us in the dark, revealing as she goes along or if we are just expected to not care what any of this is about (where did they come from? where did the Impures come from if Purebloods can't breed with humans? What happens if they breed with a human?). Not as good as J.R. Ward better than (much) than the Lara Adrian Midnight Breed books. All in all, looking forward to next book.

Renegade vampire brothers are forced to deal with their family once again. It begins when the eldest, Alexander, is forced to morph into a full fledged mature vampire before his three hundredth year. Suddenly he is no longer able to tolerate the sunlight. But morphing unexpectedly is dangerous. Being caught in the light can be the end of you. But help can come in interesting packages and being indebted to a human female can cause problems for his kind.

Moments after dragging the hulking stranger into her home, Sara was attacked by her former mental patient. The injured stranger made a quick recovery and saved her. But being saved shouldn't put you in someone elses control. The stranger turns out to be something very unexpected and still she trusts him. Sara never expected to be attracted to a vampire who wants to protect her. But she has a life and a commitment to her brother who desperately needs her. She needs to stay involved in her own life and take care of her responsibility to her brother.

Each of them sees their relationship as going no where. They call it impossible and see no solution to the way things are. But in the end their tragedies will be resolved and they will find their love is not so impossible after all.

I wasn't impressed when I started reading this book because it felt too similar to other vampire PNR series out there such as J.R. Ward's BDB series and Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series, but not as well written. However, by the end of the book I felt like the series did have some potential. The problems I had with the books were: a) The "c" word was used to refer to the female anatomy and it was used liberally. That term is derogatory, not sexy. I felt that in itself the use of this term greatly took away from the story. b)The world building did not pull me in, there were just too many different things going on and the way it was all presented just didn't do it for me. It felt like there were too many different ideas all jumbled together, and some of it I just could not buy into. The negative things aside, I will read the second book in the series and I am hoping this series lives up to the potential it does have because some of the ideas and characters were interesting. Worth trying if you like PNR.

Alexander Roman and his two brothers, Lucian and Nicholas have defected from the credenti, their abusive families. They make a pact to stay away and live their lives free, however when the Eternal Orders forces Alexander's morpho, the brothers are sucked back into the life they hated. Now Ethan Dare is targeting credenti females and impregnating them with Impures in an effort to overthrow the Purebloods. Alexander is tasked with the killing of Dare and his punishment for failing is Nicholas's morpho. There are unique aspects to these vampires: they can integrate into human society without detection until the morpho stage and then it's back to lots of blood and no sunlight.

Sara Donohue risks her life to save Alexander when he morphos right on her doorstep. There is an instant connection between them and neither one can imagine why. The push and pull of their relationship is sometimes sweet and yet an impossibility. As a morpho, Alexander can only "mate" with a vampire and Sara just doesn't fit the bill.

Alexander is the eldest of the siblings and a supreme alpha who is used to getting his way. However, Sara is a doctor and her patients are very important to her especially her mentally and physically damaged brother whom she is trying to return to the land of the living.

I had a tough time getting into this book (which explains 4/5 stars) because the world building takes a little getting used to and I didn't really like any of the brothers. There just wasn't enough background information to draw me into their lives and their situation. About halfway through the book, I finally comprehended what was going on and what the battle involved for the brothers and Alexander in particular. I really liked Alexander's caveman character because it was based on love even though he didn't realize it at the time. Sara is a very strong female with ideas and a life of her own. All in all a terrific series starter and I'm hoping to enjoy Nicholas's story though Lucian's is the one I'm really waiting for.
