The story is a factual account of Ethel's childhood (including some family history) through her execution. It is an interesting glimpse into the social and political times. I thought Sebba spent too much time dwelling on Ethel's feelings of insecurity as a mother. There were points when I thought Ethel was just a whiner. Ethel's passion for communism never came through to me. The FBI case did seem weak, and seems that she may have been a scapegoat.
