A young girl is orphaned at an early age and bounces around her South American country with all kinds of characters-- benefactors and tormentors both. She survives and transforms her experiences thru story telling. Allende weaves Eva's story with the story of a Rolf Carle, a young man escaping Nazi Austria to make films. Wonderful lush language speaks for the cause of freedom.
This is a early novel for this author. I like her latter novels better, but it was a interesting read. It has lots of twists and turns for the characters.
This book has history and a great story. I could not put this book down. You dont want the story to end. I have kept it in my library for a long time, because I enjoyed it so much, but now I would like to share it with anyone who enjoys areal good book.
Allende is more of a poet than a writer.
Typical Isabel Allende writing, very descriptive, interesting story. Sometime the characters a bit too descriptive. If you have read Allende you know that she spins a great yarn!
From the author of House of Spirits..Eva Luna is a lover, writer, revolutionary and storyteller. A contemporary Scheherazade, wide eyed South American teller of tales. Triumphs over harsh reality with her imagination! Strange, fantastical, sensuous and erotic.
amazing, mystical account of magical women and their families, written by isabel allende- a gem of latin american literature.
Mind bendingly excellent.
This book I had to read for english and it was a very good book, interesting, intriguing and just a really good book. It gives you a look at different cultures and how they live and do things and the problems and fights they see and go thru...very good book
I am a huge fan of Isabel Allende and this book did not disappoint me at all. Wonderful example of her story-telling skills.
St amid Latin American turmoil, a tale of a young woman's passage through life as she changes from a jungle birthling to anti-governemt activitist.
The enchanting and enchanted account of a contemporary Scheherazade, a wide-eyed South American teller of tales who triumphs over harsh reality through the creative power of her own imagination..."Imaginative, original, convincing, pointed, and spiced with good humor and wit."
Good condition. No tears or rips, but labeled for Book Crossing.
Meet the unforgettable Eva Luna -- Lover, Writer, Revolutionary and Storyteller. "Sumptuous . . . Eva Luna is a tale that spans forty years and moves from a surreal jungle to a modern-day urban capital where even the most apolitical are driven to risky anti-government activities. Allende's canvas is large, busy, full of feeling, incident and rich detail."
