While I found the storyline interesting, I felt the author could've done much more with it. It had much potential, but the author didn't deliver.

I didn't feel that this book was terribly well written. I felt that the author didn't go deep enough with the characters in order for the reader to truly connect with them either.

All in all, I found it pretty flat and it didn't keep my attention; I kept falling asleep while reading it. Luckily, though, it captured me just enough to keep me reading until the end.

The last few chapters were better than the entire book combined, and I was extremely moved at the end. I cried and cried in those last few pages, but that wasn't enough to get me to like the book after all was said and done.

To sum it up, I would say this book was "so-so at best, with a very touching ending".

I was ready to give this book a 2-star rating, 2-1/2 stars tops. Until the end. The ending was so good that I gave it 3 stars. But no more.

Eva has two "companions" who accompany here throughout her motherless life. She can't figure out though, if they are trying to help her or hurt her. A gothic novel in every sense of the word, set in WW2.

I was surprised how much I loved this book. It only took me two days to read it. I was so engrossed that I read it while I cooked and ate. Wonderful characters and it keeps you guessing to the end.

Reading this book is like sitting at your Granny's knee being told stories of her life. Just a really thought provoking, haunting story that in the end makes your heart ache and thrill and leaves you with a nicely satisfied feeling. A very good book I am pleased to recommend.

A moving novel about the strong ties that bind mothers and daughters, even after death.
