i really enjoyed this book. i made the mistake of beginning with a book that came late in the series. i should have read this one first. we were on snowdon mountain last year so it was really fun to read a book that has that as its setting. i could picture some of the places that were described. they said that evan evans was a bit reminiscent of hamish macbeth and i really like the hamish macbeth character and i would agree that if you like one you will most likely like the other. since i've read all the hamish books i'm looking forward to having another series to read now.

This is the first book that I've read by Rhys Bowen and I have to say I enjoyed it immensely. I have never read a mystery that takes place in Wales so this is my first experience with the places and dialect there. It was very interesting. I loved the odd characters that inhabit the village where the story takes place. I also liked the main character, Evan Evans. He is very likeable and I will defineatly want to read other books in this series. Good read!

Constable Evan Evans was glad to trade city life for idyllic Llanfair, a Welsh village that time forgot. But this little town has its share of eccentric characters, and soon he is called to the scene of a crime as brutal as any in the big city. Bowen perfectly captures the flavor of the fiercely nationalistic Welsh, and the plot intrigue marks this as a worthy example of crime fiction.

First book in Rhys Bowen's Constable Evans series. Evan Evans, newly-relocated village policeman, investigates a series of brutal murders that have occurred on the mountain just out of town. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick and charming cozy.

This is the first in the series, and it gives one a chance to get settled in with the town of Llanfair and its inhabitants. It was a very pleasant read, not as interesting as Hamish Macbeth, but quite enjoyable.
