A mystery set in modern day, small-town Wales...good characters, and well-written!

Welsh Constable Evan Evans is one of my favorite detectives. I really enjoy this series.

I accidently stumbled upon these books. Normally I'm not a mystery reader but I have found the Constable Evans series to be delighful. Having visited the part of Wales where these are set, I was initally drawn to the setting - but have found Bowen's ability to blend humor, intrigue, charming-but-quirky small-town characters, and a sense of reader involvement into the stories to be engaging. I would recommend them to someone looking for a light who-dun-it mystery. They are a quick, pleasant, interesting read.

Betsy, the barmaid, goes to the Sacred Grove New Age center for testing of her psychic ability. The director of the center is killed and Evan investigates. Good addition to the series.
I love cozies and this filled the bill.
Constable Evan Evans #6. Betsy, the barmaid at the Red Dragon, quits her job and goes to work at The Sacred Grove, a big old estate turned into a holistic healing and Celtic spirituality center. An American researcher has convinced her that she has inborn psychic ability and needs to develop it. Meanwhile, Evan visits Sacred Grove as part of a missing persons case and things get more and more tangled up after that. Enjoyable as always. I'm convinced I want to retire to Llanfair...even though the locals wouldn't like me because I'm a foreigner. :)
Great read.
