Couldn't decide whether to give this read three or four stars. Finally opted for three stars because it reminded me so much of The Hunger Games. Eve is a sheltered and naive young heroine who leaves school when she discovers that graduation holds only child birth after child birth instead of the fascinating career she has dreamed having. In the wilds with no idea how to live she meets both Arden and Caleb who are far more able to survive on their own. They race through an unforgiving environment chased by troops who want to capture Eve for the elderly king who wants her for his wife. Escaping capture time and again, Eve keeps moving to find a safe place. The book ends with the reader wondering how she can continue her new life and what will happen next in the sequel, Once.
