Pretty good story although not riveting. Kingsbury did a good job developing most of the characters. I will read the follow up book because I was interested enough in the characters.

A tender romance about teen lovers cruelly torn apart and the daughter who tracks them down and brings them back together. But they have changed. After all this time-is loveenough, or will they lose their daughter-and each other again?
A heart breaking and soul stirring read that explores questions about love, destiny, pride, parenthood, and loves ability to stretchbeyond years and differences.

This book was the first Karen Kingsbury book that I read. I LOVED IT!!!!
Shane and Lauren were sooo much in love and ended up pregnant as teenagers. However, they wanted to stay together desparately. But their parents separated them across the country. Shane's parents moved them away right before the baby was born! Lauren and Shane didn't know how to contact each other. Lauren had the baby and no way to contact her only love. She was desparate so soon after the baby was born she left home to find Shane in California! But her baby, Emily, got sick- so much so that she knew she had to get her to a hospital. So she traveled back home and Emily was close to death. There was a mix up at the hospital and Lauren thought that Emily died. So, without finding out the truth or talking to her parents she left home- without looking back. Emily didn't die! She was raised by her grandparents and without a mom or dad. Lauren's parents looked for her but could never find her... When Emily graduated from high school she tracked down her mom AND dad... they are brought together after all these years.... but can they find a common ground again? It is a story of forgiveness and finding God through all of it... It is a true tearjerker and I fell in love with the characters so much that I couldn't wait to read the second book, Ever After. I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book! I couldn't imagine living apart from my baby while she was growing up and the heartbreak I would feel for those years! UGH!
A must read!!!!! All of Karen Kingsbury's books pull at your heartstrings!! This one especially!

Oh my goodness! I haven't cried in a book for so long but this one kept my crying most of it! It is probably the best Karen Kingsbury book I've read. You really felt the emotion of the characters and ached with them when they were aching. Lots of happy tears too!
Every one has been hurt by someone at some degree and we can learn to forgive and to heal our broken hearts from this book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about reading it.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a wonderful tale of love and the grace of God working in the character's lives. There were a few discrepancies as far as the timeline and some minor details, but no obvious problems that interfered with the story's development. I read it in just a few days and with my busy life, that's not an easy thing to do! I'm currently reading the sequel, Ever After, and am hoping it's just as good as the first.

This is a fantastic book. One of my all time favorite book. It will make you cry though. Lauren and Shane have a true love, however the adults in their life don't believe that they are old enough to know what true love is! June><>
Great book. Again Karen Kingsbury has done a real life, down to earth story telling that so many of us can relate to.
This is one of my most favorite books! It is an excellent story of young love and lost love found. The excellent character development, along with a carefully crafted plot, transform this book into a guaranteed page turner. A must read!

Sometimes hope for the future is found in the ashes of yesterday.
Shane Galanter - a man ready to put down roots after years of searching. But is he making the right choice? Or is there a woman somewhere who even now remembers - as he does - those long-ago days...and a love that hasn't faded with time?
Lauren Gibbs - a succesful international war correspondent who gave up on happily-ever-after years ago - when it was ripped away from her. Since then, she's never looked back. So how come she can't put to rest the one question that haunts her: Why is life so empty?
Emily Anderson - a college freshman raised by her grandparents and about to take her first internship as a journalist. But before she can move ahead, she discovers a love story whose tragic ending came with her birth. As a result, she is drawn to look back and search out the mother she's never met.
A young woman seeking answers to her hearts deep questions. A man and woman seperated by lies and long years...yet who have never forgotten each other. With hallmark tenderness and power, Karen Kingsbury weaves a tapestry of lives, losses, love. and faith - and the miracle of resurrection.

This is my first Kingsbury book. She is far and away one of the best writers in the Christian romance genre, and this book is a page-turner. I enjoyed the characters, for the most part, especially those who genuinely struggled with the life-shaping events described in the summary. Emily, the daughter, is what many writers call a "Mary Sue": she lacks noteworthy flaws and her faith is perfect. I also felt that the resolution was a little too easy, but perhaps the rest of the series deals with the obstacles that realistically should have interrupted the rush to this book's happy ending. I still recommend this book, and I enjoyed Kingsbury's elegant and emotional writing enough that I will probably pick up another book from this series or one of her others in the near future.
Very good book!
Very good book, a little too emotional for me.
Karen Kingsbury has done it again - a wonderful story!

This was a wonderful story of a powerful love between two people, and how it was meant to be. God had his seal of approval on this love from the beginning. The love between Lauren and Shane is one that I won't soon forget, and it proves that "love really does conquer all". :)
Shane and Lauren are childhood friends who become lovers when they are teenagers. Lauren becomes pregnant a year before high school graduation. Feeling their children are too young to get married, the parents take desperate measures to discourage contact and Shane's family moves from one coast of the U.S. to the other and dishonestly keep the two lovers from contacting each other by phone. Even before the baby is born, the soon-to-be grandparents' friendship is tested and broken off.
Because of a cruel twist of fate, Lauren believes her infant daughter has died. For decades she does not contact her parents, and she has no idea her parents are raising their granddaughter, Emily. When Emily is in college she discovers that her mother is an international journalist and that her father is a fighter pilot instructor.
Neither Shane nor Lauren have gotten married, and to find out if their love for each other is re-kindled, the sequel to Even Now is "Ever After".
"Even Now" is excellent Christian fiction about love, loss, faith and forgiveness.

I just starting reading this book 2 days ago and I love it. Great for a teenager or young adult.
A tragic love story about young love and loss. It is also a story of redemption and forgiveness. The plot is a bit far-fetched and unbelievable at times, however.
I very rarely say this, but I could not put this book down. It grabbed me from the very beginning. I felt the characters emotions as if I were part of their story. Absolutely loved it. Anxious to start the 2nd book tonight!
Grandparents raised Emily Anderson. When she is an adult they give her a box of her mother's things that they recently discovered. She hopes it will contain things that will aid in her search for her parents.
Have not read it yet.

Can a young boy and a young girl fall in love during grade school, carry that romance into high school and have it last? Or are those romantic feelings passed off as "puppy love?" The answer to these questions contains one of the themes of this page-turning novel from Karen Kingsbury.
The prologue begins with a young woman, Emily Anderson, wondering about her parents. Because her grandparents raised her, Emily has no memories of her mom or dad. When her grandfather finds a box full of her mother's writings, Emily begins to learn some answers.
In the first chapter, readers meet Shane Galanter and Lauren Anderson, who are inseparable whether at church or at school. Their emotional love becomes physical and Lauren is pregnant. As strong Christians, they never consider an abortion. Because Lauren and Shane are 17 and soon entering their last year of high school, suddenly their parents are entangled in the future of their relationship. Samuel Galanter and Bill Anderson are partners and close friends at a Chicago bank. Their wives, Sheila Galanter and Angela Anderson, are also close friends. Lauren and Shane are desperate to keep their child and stay together, yet their parents are determined to separate the couple.
With his limited money of $380 Shane goes to a jewelry store and purchases a promise ring for Lauren. Inside the words are engraved Even Now as a summary of his feelings about this season of life.
Because the two sets of parents doubt that a young couple's relationship can last, they take their own drastic actions to sell their business and homes. The Andersons move to Wheaton, the Chicago suburb, while the Galanters move to southern California
