Much of it happens in places I visited in the UK. It's quirky and charming.

Very disappointed in this book. For me, it seems to fall into a nether category - attitude and sensibility too grown up for children, but written as if from Nory's point of view. Kind of. Not sure WHAT Baker was thinking. But love his essays (e.g., The Size of Thoughts) and the other books of his that I have read (Vox, The Fermata, The Mezzanine).

Very funny book about the human mind. Fine detail, finely observed by Mr. Baker. Brilliantly funny. Tenderest of interactions between people.

If you are the type of person who generally finds children to be charming, you will likely be utterly charmed by this book.

If however, you are like me, and find most children to be tiresome, you will find this book tiresome.

The writing really does brilliantly capture the voice of a precocious child. Points for craftsmanship.
