Awesome book, really hard to put down. Have not ever read anything by this author that was not outstanding. This is a book about a reporter that's called by the "first lady" that wants to meet her. The first lady & her President just lost a child to SIDS and it takes off from there. A lot of suspense, romance and very surprising ending.

Investigative Reporter Barrie Travis works at a small market television station. She is shocked when she receives a call from First Lady Vanessa Merritt who wants to talk to her. During their face-to-face discussion, Barrie realizes that Vanessa is still grief stricken by the S.I.D.S. death of her infant son three months ago. Vanessa also alludes to the fact that the baby may have been murdered. Barrie decides to do some digging and begins to believe that the Merritt baby was murdered. But proving it will not be easy. Barrie approaches Gray Bondurant, a former Presidential Advisor who left Washington under a cloud of suspicion about his relationship with the First Lady.
I have mixed feelings about this romantic suspense book. The characters did not seem very realistic to me. Yes, the president has a lot of power, but I find it hard to believe that he could pull off some of the things that happen in this book. Still, I enjoyed the overall suspense story and kept turning the pages to see what would happen next. I didn't like the romance between Barrie and Gray. I think the story could have been much better without that element.
I loved how the story wrapped up, especially the little twist at the very end. Overall, an entertaining but problematic read. My rating: 4 Stars.

Reporter Barrie Travis is stuck in a low-budget TV station job. Who would think the First Lady would call her?
Kind of a classic Romance novel but interesting enought to read all the way through, no peeping in on the last page.
Fast fun with a wild twist at the end when the First Lady calls reporter Barrie Travis about the loss of her infant son. She unearths White House secrets that, if exposed, couldl topple the presidency.
This was an interesting read, in that it is 25 years old, and it seemed so odd that today's technology was missing. But it was enjoyable nevertheless and I read quickly to the end. Characters somewhat contrived, but still a good read.
Very intriguing I usually figure the story out but I had it wrong on this one.
A thriller that is filled with unexpected twists and turns. My favorite kind!! The setting is a fast-paced newsroom and the White House. How many times have we wondered about the news we get from the White House via our reporters and Sandra Brown's book will make us see layers we never knew existed. Plus enough sex and romance to add some fun.
As always Sandra Brown delivers suspence, drama and romance all rolled into one great page turner.
This is a fast read, good story with a few twists.
Quick read and very fast paced. I enjoyed it.

Sandra Brown is one of my favorite authors, and this book was no let-down. She keeps the action rolling, and there are lovely little twists and turns to keep you guessing. Great read. Politics and murder, what more could one want.
Good book by Sandra Brown. Exciting and fast-paced.
A determined woman TV journalist with an exiled presidential aide in Washington D.C. the city where men sell their souls for power, but women prefer revenge.
A great read with a surprise ending!
Like all of Sandra Brown\'s books, this one moves along quickly. Interesting characters and a good mystery plot.
Political thriller, fast-moving, suspense, twists and turns.
A political thriller that is not dull at all! A fast read as only Sandra Brown can make happen!
S. Brown is always a good read!
Watergate, Schmatergate, get a load of this: a dead infant, a sleazy president, a manic-depressive first lady, an aide that makes G. Gordon Liddy look like a wuss, murder, adultery, a thousand skeletons peeping from a thousand closets. Exclusive moves so quickly because somebody is always doing something bad. TV journalist Barrie Travis interviews the first lady, a Southern belle still mourning the death of her infant. With a mixture of horror and self-interest, Travis perceives the slightest hint that the first infant didn't merely die, but was murdered. But by who, and why? As you can imagine, that's when it gets messy. The book might capsize under the sheer weight of seamy scandals and sleazy characters were it not for the almost-supernaturally spunky Travis and her somewhat reluctant love-object, craggy ex-Marine Gray Bondurant. Bondurant left the White House under a cloud. Was he the first lady's lover? Travis and Bondurant come together to solve the mystery, of course.
This book is an easy and enjoyable read.
Barrie is a reporter who has made a few mistakes in her previous reporting experiences and is struggling to improve her reputation in her occupation. The president's wife, who lost her baby recently, asks to meet with her on an off the record meeting, much to her amazement. From the meeting, Barrie sees a story on SIDs as the baby belonging to the president and his wife died of it. As she looks into the story, it starts looking like murder instead, and then the story really heats up and doesn't let up until the last page. Just when you think you have it solved another twist shows up and takes you in another direction. Great book!

FROM THE PUBLISHER
A second-stringer with first-class talent, Barrie Travis is stuck at a low-budget independent television station struggling to survive among the giant networks. Then, suddenly, she receives an invitation from First Lady Vanessa Merritt for an off-the-record conversation. Barrie's reporter's instincts are instantly aroused. During a furtive, emotionally charged meeting, Barrie sees that the President's beautiful wife is stunned by grief after the crib death of her infant son. Vanessa's motive for meeting Barrie seems to be to share her heartache with another woman. What Barrie overlooks in her excitement at hearing the confidences of the First Lady are the questions she should be asking: Why would Vanessa Merritt call her? And why would the President's wife hint to an unknown reporter that her child may have been murdered? Blind to everything but getting her exclusive, Barrie is determined to investigate the death of the President's child. But she soon realizes that getting her story will test her ethics and her patriotism. Would she expose information that could topple the presidency? She confronts this problem when she tracks down Gray Bondurant, a former presidential aide and war hero who shunned the politics of Washington in favor of life on a remote Wyoming ranch. And when they both begin to follow a trail of lies and intrigue right to the White House door, Barrie's exclusive puts at least three people on the firing line: the First Lady, Gray, and herself - as crimes and ambitions combine to endanger their lives and the future of the nation.
