Good coming of age story. Part of it we all experienced if we grew up in a small town. I live in Dallas, TX and Execution is in the suburbs. I found myself wondering where the setting was (in reality) at times.

A small-town boy longs to break out his boundaries. Lots of humor smacking of the 80's, including multiple references to the music of Mark Almond (remember Soft Cell?) Sexual confusion and drugs abound.

Travers Scott is one of my favorite authors. He has a knack for drawing you into the worlds he creates on his pages. You grow to really care about the characters but he does this without being manipulative. Being a child of the 80's, this book really brings me back. I found myself rooting for the main character and feeling his frustration, uncertainty, loneliness and longing. This is a great book. If you are really feeling adverturous, give his other novel "One of these things is not like the other" a try. It is hands down my favorite book ever, although the subject matter might scare off some readers. I recommend him to anyone who asks for a good book by an author they might not have heard of.
