I love this author
Excellent story by great writer. She writes with knowledge of the Southwest area.
For Joanna Brady, the sheriff of Cochise County,Arizona, an already hot day has turned blistering when a body lies lifeless in an airless trailer surrounded by seventeen others is found in her jurisdiction.
The intense desert heat has brought a nightmare to a small corner of the southwest. A body lies lifeless in an airless trailer, surrounded by seventeen others. It is a horror strangely connected to a grisly slaughter in a neighboring state, where the corpses of two women are found gruesomely posed on a rancher's land. A day that started out hot has already turned blistering for Joanna Brady, the sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona, for terror has moved into her small town to stay. The nightmare will not end until she uncovers the roots of a monstrous obsession buried womewhere in the most frightening dark shadows of the past.
Another good book by J.A. Jance. This one is set in Cochise County with sheriff Brady trying to solve the nightmare of the unspeakable murders in her town.
When the tempture rises, the beast comes out.
Exit Wounds should keep readers on edge frim its scene-setting start
Carol Mossman, living alone in the desert, was shot with an antique gun. Her trailer had grown so hot that her 17 dogs also died. As Sheriff Joanna Brady follows various leads, two more murders are discovered. Could a still more dastardly secret lie behind the mayhem? Joanna must also deal with her personal life and illegal immigrants, run for reelection, and face an animal activist group. Plenty to think about here, but Jance manages to keep the atmosphere positive and the action moving.
This easy read is most enjoyable...
i have always enjoyed the author. the protagonist is the female sheriff of a coounty in arizona. her character (a series of her adventures)encounters the gory, the unexsplainable, and the wierd.
A good read set in Arizona with a woman Sheriff.
A very good read, with lot's of excitement and a good ending.
Bk 11 in Joanna Brady series. Another tightly woven story. Jane adds just enough personal stuff about her characters to give them life while keeping the plot and story on the front burner.
Excellent story! Three dead women, two of which are reports that were working on a cult (The Bretheren) story which involve young children. The third woman was part of the cult years ago when she was a child and was saved from the hell that she lived every day and was ready to tell her story to make others aware. The women in this cult are worthless according to the cult and are sold and traded like items they no longer need.
By the age of 12 young girls are sold and married off to old perverted horny men. One wedding in which was seceretly filmed and given to the reporters to make public. They find Carol dead in her trailor with her 17 dogs shot to death. And they find the reports in a field striped naked as if it was a case of sexual assult.
Who is the killer? Is it someone from "The Brethern" that does not want their existance known or is it Carol's own father that doesn't want the world to know what he did to her.
At the end of most of her books she gives an explanation of how she came to writing her story. Mostly she'll find something factual that most people don't know about or are unaware of and uses it to create one of her many stories.

From School Library Journal
Adult/High School-Sheriff Joanna Brady investigates the murder of Carol Mossman, who lived alone in the desert and was shot with an antique gun. Her 17 dogs died, too, due to an intense buildup of heat in the trailer. The investigation leads to the deceased woman's siblings, grandmother, and father, and two murdered female reporters. As the facts come together, it becomes apparent that the victim's father raped his daughters, impregnating at least two. While working on the case, Brady deals with the local animal activist group and illegal immigrants, all while running for reelection. While none of the scenes depict details of the incestuous relationships, the lasting effect of abuse becomes a major point of the story. The human abuse in turn leads back to the topic of animal abuse, painting a sad picture of the horrors of both. But Jance manages to keep the atmosphere positive, with lots of action, energy, and realism along the way, and Brady's personal thoughts and beliefs give a perspective to the events. This 10th in the series offers topics for thought and a rousing plot.

As usual, I love this author and her stories. I'm anixously awaiting the next one in the continuing story of Joanna, Butch, Jenny and all the animals, four legged and human that inhabit her stories. She writes with humor at times, sadness at times and always with great feeling.
As always Sherrif Joanna Brady gets her man!!
This is a GREAT read!
Joana Brady as the county sheriff after the death of her husband who was killed in the line of duty. A woman's body and 17 dead dogs are found in a trailer. This leads to her discovering 2 more related murders and the existance of a cult-type group that may be responsible. A good read. Sequel to "Desert Heat", "Tombstone Courage", and "Paradise Lost".
if you like J A Jance, you will enjoy this Joanna brady novel.
No-nonsense Joanna Brady, sheriff of a desert county, tries to deal with an understaffed department, home life and some serious murders.
My first JA Jance book and it was GREAT!! Excellently written and totally believable characters. Joanna Brady, sheriff for Cochise County, Arizona, is called in on a murder in the blistering heat; a grisley slaughter in a neighboring state is related . The nightmare will not end until she uncovers the roots of a monstrous obsession buried somewhere in the most frightening dark shadows of the past.
Lover her Books. Nice plot.
Great book, I read it in 2 days because I didn't want to put it down.
17 bodies are found dead in an airless trailer and Joanna Brady must find out what happened and why. Very good story
A fast read, and as all JA Jance books featuring Sheriff Joanna Brady are, a good mystery, very descriptive.
This is a brand new Joanna Brady, Sheriff of Cochise county Arizona scary mystery.
I liked this book. I didn't realize the main character was from a series of books by the author. So now I have to start at the beginning. Main character is Sheriff Joanna Brady and the story revolves around and murder mystery and her handling her personal life. Interesting read.
The intense desert heat has brought a nightmare to a small ocrner of the Southwest. A body lies lifeless in an airless trailer, surrounded by seventeen others. It is a crime unspeakable in conception and execution - a horror strangely connected to a grisly slaughter in a neighboring state, where the corpses of two women are found gruesomely posed on a rancher's land...(Back of Book).
I thought this was a good mystery.
I thought this was a good mystery.
really good story!
This is a bit of a different track for the author - Johanna Brady is sent to check out a body - which is surrounded by 17 other bodies in an over-heated trailer, in the desert sun. Since atrocities like this are in the news seemingly every day, it should be old hat by now, but it still upsets me, even if it is fiction. Brady follows leads to the killings that set her up in a precarious situation, and that situation comes into her town.
Both the story of Joanna Brady and the mysteries in Jance's books are always good.
A great book, can't wait to read her other books.
Jance doesn't disappoint. Expect to be taken in and engrossed from Page 1.
3 Deaths in Cochise County within 2 days, and Joanna Brady is working hard. The story deals with 'a mostrous obesession bried in the frightening shadows of the past.' That is taken from teh back cover, and I couldn't have worded it any better myself. A Shocking tale of murder(s) to KEEP the skeletons in the closet. (And they are nasty skeletons!!!)
hard to believe a woman sheriff in a small town gets so many murder cases. interesting plots to all his books tho.
A perfect story, with unexpected twists and turns. In the tradition of J.A. Jance, each chacter is well developed and the plot line is true to the story, without any messy sidelines of romance, etc., distracting from the true basis of the book...murder mystery. Love J.A. Jance!
Good author, TBR
