A bewitching story that will put you under its spell.....
Eye of Newt is a well written, if busy little mystery. As the book synopsis states, there is a present day mystery as well as one set in the Salem of the 1600s. Syd and her brother come across this as they decipher the olde style text of their ancestors journal, while an overpopulated cast of characters form the backdrop for the modern day mystery.
I like a good back story and interesting minor characters, but in this case there was just too much going on, and it took away from the two major plot lines of this book. I would have liked for the author to have either cut down the number of minor players, or lengthened the book to flesh them out more. All in all, still a very good read that would make a decent launch pad for a series.
