Lieutenant Davenport's sanity was nearly shatteredby two murder investigations. Now he faces something worse .... two killers. One hideously scarred. The other strikingly handsome, a mster manipulator fascinated with all aspects of death. The dark mirror of Davenport's soul .... this is the case that will bring Davenport back to life or push him over the edge. I have read most of the Prey books and I think this is one of the best ones if not the best I have read.

Eyes of Prey is the third in the Lucas Davenport series by John Sandford. In this edition, Lucas is still torn up by the ending of Shadow Prey which featured an attack in his home against himself, his lover and his child. He takes it out on a young thug by beating him senseless. Internal Affairs begins to investigate and Lucas is on a short leash as he begins to investigate the murder of Stephanie Becker.
As it is with many Prey books, we know who the killer is. Except in this case, there are two killers. Two evil men decided to try and idea they gleaned from a movie where they each take turns killing each other's problem person. Carlo Druze kills Becker's wife and Becker kills Druze's boss. There are problems however when their is a witness to Becker's wife's murder, an unknown lover.
Meanwhile, there are more killings. Becker is a pathologist at the university hospital and is constantly living in a drug induced stupor or euphoria. Druze is a scarred, damaged man easily pliable by Becker. The strength in Eyes of Prey lie in the tight police work and the characterization of the bad guys and of Lucas's decent into depression. The ending is also surprising, yet doesn't really give any clues into the forth book in the series (which retains some characters from this book).
As usual in the series, there is a lot of cussing and sleeping around. But Standford has crafted another great thriller that will keep me reading the entire series.

Another winner. It's a great presentation of Davenport's struggle out of depression and while the killer and reasons are known throughout the book, the last page came as a shock to me!
As always-excellent
Sanford surprised me here!
Great book.
John Sanford is a great author!
It is a thriller, I have not personally read but it looks intresting. The front states "Savage...Suspenseful...Gripping From start to finish"
Hard to put down
enjoyed this book
I really enjoy the Prey series. I giggle at how big of a douchebag our hero can be, but hey, this book was set in the 80's and it's fair to look back and laugh right? Beyond the neon warm-ups and retro soundtrack, this book is a real page turner. Great bad guys with non-stop creepiness. Highy recommended for the rogue cop vs. serial killer fan.
Love this series
Loved it!! I also like the J.D. Robb books, and this kind of reminds me of them.
Huge John Sandford fan. Part of the Lucas Davenport series. A must read if you like the series.
Another John Sandford great read.
excellent all the way
I've really enjoyed this series so far. This was as good as the two before it.
First in a great series.
Not one of Sanford's best stories, but worth reading.
Another riveting John Sandford "prey" book in the series which features MN detective Lucas Davenport. This time is is hunting down a devious and unlikely killer who has an obsession with eyes.
This series just keeps getting better!!

This is the third book in the Prey series and it does not disappoint. Two serial killers killing for each other and covering each other til one gets greedy or crazier. Surprise ending that I was not expecting. Great read and each book gets better and better. Ready for the next one!
Great read - very creepy, I really enjoyed it.
Detective story full of suspense!
Another winner in the Prey series by John Sandford!
This is a great series.
loved it
It's been awhile since I've read this book, but I have enjoyed all of Sandford's "Prey" series.

Good thriller/mystery. Easy reading.
Another great book in the Lucas Davenport Prey series. This one will not disappoint in any way. As usual the bad guys are really bad and in this case Lucas faces some really tough personal challenges as well. A great read!
This was so good, I really enjoy Lucas Davenport. I have been reading these out of order which makes them a little confusing but I can't keep track of which is which. This is when we first meet Bekker the whacko pathologist who has issues with eyes.
Horrifying, but fascinating.
Prey novel about Davenport seeking two killers, one horribly scarred and one very handsome who is fascinated by death.
Third of the "Prey" books -- a bit creepy but a good read.
Good read with a change of direction for Davenport.

Great mystery--love Lucas Davenport.
good read
great read
I coudn't put this down. I will say - it's a bit gruesome but, the ending is worth it - I was blown away. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next Prey in the series.
3rd in Davenport series
The 3rd in the Prey series featuring Lucas Davenport. A psychotic pathologist hopped up on multiple illegal drugs hires an actor to kill his wife, and in exchange he'll kill the theater director who dislikes the actor. That wasn't a spoiler, since as usual Sandford has the POV of both killers plus Lucas Davenport. Davenport is battling depression and PTSD from events in the last book, but this case is interesting enough to break him out of it. Lots of action, not too much focus on gore but a lot on the various drugs, and a couple twists at the end. No problems if a new reader wanted to start with this book, there's plenty of explanation without interrupting the action.
A crime thriller about a diabolical team of serial killers pursued by a tough smart detective who isn't afraid to play by his own rules when he needs to.
Lucas Davenport to the rescue!! Lucas comes out of a deep depression to save the city. A real good one.
Another great Lucas Davenport novel! I just love his character!
Love the Lucas Davenport series.
gave this book to my daughter she said she loved it
