It was a little slow for my taste but still a good book. It's about the murder of an Amish baby that goes unsolved for 50 years and how it effects a whole community from 1810-1861. You'll like it if you love historical fiction.
Historical fiction. A good book.
A gripping historical novel. The murdewr of an Amish baby goes unsolved for more than 50 years, greatly disturbing the way of the Amish.
The historical detail and voices of the Amish character all ring true. The mystery is really known from the beginning, but it is fifty-years and nearly 500 pages of living with the consequences before the denouement. Overall I liked the book, especially for its insight into the Amish faith and and the expansion west in early America. However, the format of the telling became tedious at times. This is not an action story.
I found this at Goodwill and was very unsure about reading it, but I ended up really enjoying it.
