Eve Duncan, Forensic sculptor, has to identify a face from a skull given to her to reconstruct. Could it be the long ago murdered daughter?
Eve Duncan is a forensic sculptor. She helps identify the dead from their skulls as a way of coming to terms with the death of her daughter, whose body was never found. When she accepts work from a billionaire, a face emerges from the skull he has given her to reconstruct...a face no one was ever meant to see. Powerful enemies are determined to cover up the truth, even if Eve gets buried with it.
If you enjoy Patricia Cornwell, you will want to read this book. I found it very engaging until the very end. I couldn't put it down!

I loved the plot in the book. It kept my interest right through, wondering how it would turn out. But I did not like Eve Duncan, the heroine. She is supposed to be this really gutsy tough person who has survived this terrible tragedy, but she just seemed like a pain the butt through the whole book. I hope I like her better in the next book.
This is my first book by this author.
I didn't find it riveting, but it moved along very well.
Eve is the main character and and even by the end of the book I didn't like her any more than at the beginning.
Why four stars? because I would be happy to read another book to see if she improves!

My Review:
The only regret that I have about this book is that I didn't read it sooner! This was the first book that I've read from Iris Johansen and I can assure you that it will not be my last. As soon as I finished this book, I made sure I put Book #2 in the Eve Duncan series, The Killing Game, on hold! This book was right up my alley, as I love forensics and am fascinated with this sculpting process!
The story was in depth, flowing smoothly, with twists and turns in every directions that you wouldn't expect. Just when you thought you knew what was going on, Johansen threw you for another twist. It was an interesting story to read about and kept me captivated throughout! I felt that the facts of the story were thoroughly researched and accurately depicted.
As for the characters, I loved Eve Duncan! I think that the characters were put together nicely to make a great balance in the story. I think that each characters puts their own advantage to the story, making it fill out nicely.
Overall, I very much enjoyed this read and can't wait to read more! I don't think that I will stop with the Eve Duncan series either. I can see Iris Johansen ranking right up there with Lisa Gardner on my favorite author list!

Loved the complexity and high stakes of this plot, it really kept me on my toes!
I would've liked a tad (just a tad) more romantic chemistry between Eve and Logan, which would've added a deeper layer of tension to her relationship with Quinn, but overall, I had a hard time putting this book down and recommend it for those new to Iris Johansen!

Good read!
After losing her beloved child to a serial killer, forensic sculptor Eve Duncan survives by focusing on her career. The best in her field at rebuilding faces from bare skull bones, Eve specializes in identifying missing children. When billionaire John Logan requests her help in identifying an adult skull, Eve--already swamped with work--tells Logan that she isn\'t interested. But when he volunteers to donate a large sum of money to a charity for missing children in exchange for her time, Eve reluctantly agrees. Logan neglects to tell her that there are powerful, desperate people who are determined to keep the skull\'s true identity a secret at any cost. Eve\'s gut instincts tell her that Logan is holding back vital information: Does the billionaire really believe that he\'s uncovered new insight into the Kennedy assassination? Or does the skull tie him to a mysterious murder? Eve\'s wildest guesses don\'t even come close to the stunning truth that she discovers when she at last studies the restored face. Now she and Logan have proof of a dark secret that could get them killed. And it will take all of their combined cunning and sheer nerve to survive. Well plotted, meticulously researched and spine-tingling, The Face of Deception is a fast-paced game of hide-and-seek, as Eve and Logan race to stay one step ahead of relentless pursuers while accomplishing the delicate, high-tech restoration for which Eve is famous. Leave all the lights on if you read this one at night alone
Great fast read>
LAPD homicide detective Milo Sturgis summons his friend, psychologist-sleuth Alex Delaware, to a trendy gallery where a promising young artist has been brutally garroted on the night of her first major showing. The details of the murder scene immediately suggest to Alex not an impulsive crime of passion, but the meticulous and taunting modus operandi of a serial killer. Delaware's suspicions are borne out when he and Milo find there's a link between the artist's death and the murder of a noted blues guitarist. The Twisting trail leads from halfway houses to palatial mansions, and from a college campus to the last place Alex ever expected: the doorstep of his ex-lover Robin Castagna. As more killings are discovered, unraveling the maddening puzzle assumes a chilling new importance--stopping a vicious psychopath who's made cold-blood murder his chosen art form.
