Basically, this story is about lives & loves ruined by oneman's ruthless obsession for power. John St. George's failure inwinning his father's love/respect (& vice-versa) turned him into a control freak with a twisted mind. His jealous rage made him victimize his half-sister Pam--who was everyone's darling, & her lover Cutter Reid--the 'nobody' whom his father was so proud of. But a person can only take so much before wanting revenge...and doing something to make it happen.

All that glitters..All that deceives...
From Boston to small town Maine to New York, they shared love affairs, friendships and betrayals..
Hillary Cox..a successful writer, she could not escape her obsession for one man, and all the pain and passion he offered.
John St. George..Not content with his father's fortune in tourmaline mines and a chain of jewelry stores, he wanted his father's young second wife, too.
Pam St. George..Her fathers death left her at her half brothers mercy, and John would rule her like a tyrant and a lover.
Cutter Reid..Transformed from a kid with no future to a man of distinction, he was the object of John's undying hatred, and Pam's tempestuous love.
When John St. George announces his engagement on national TV, Hillary Cox threatens to bring him down in disgrace-while a three decade old family drama of power, duplicity and money is played out to its extraordinary conclusion.

I'll be SO SORRY when this book ends! I'm a huge BD fan and each one of her novels that I've listened to has been better than the last. This one took me a bit longer to get into, largely because of the reader whose voice for Eugene took some getting used to...but the story line is unforgettable and the characters so complex. I admire this author! Can't get enough of her work!
