I thoroughly enjoyed Facing the Congo. At the completion I felt as though I had endured a trek up and down the Congo River myself. Some readers may find that the extensive descriptions slowed down the action a bit, but the depictions of the people, towns, and wilderness create a tactile side to the story.
I felt the conclusion to the story was a bit rushed and could have been drawn out a little better. Overall a great read, one that I would recommend if you enjoy reading travel/adventure books.

good story about trying to float down the Congo River in a pirogue during the time of Mobutu. Although the idea to do this struck me as quite fool hardy it made for a good read.
