This is a stunning story about a pest that has been found in twenty-four states in America and does untold damage to ash trees. The adults are metallic green in color, although they may also appear bright red. Shockingly, the larvae and grubs start eating the ash tree after hatching. They develop tunnels in the trees and eventually weaken and kill ash trees.

Although they normally live for one year, they can live for two years when aggressively eating ash trees. The author validly points out that these borers should not be kept as pets because they devastate ash trees.
