As one case closes another one opens. Janie Hannagan returns, this time using her abilities of being swept into a person's dreams to solve a sex scandal at her school.
Several calls have been made on Fieldridge High School's anonymous phone line. Although inaudible at times, the messages result in the assumption that certain faculty members and students at Fieldridge have been fooling around. So Captain and her agents use their closest resources to try and crack the case, meaning Janie and Cabel will have to figure out what is going on. Objection at first by Cabel, but Janie gives the final decision and both are on the case.
While the investigation continues, Janie is given the chance to finally see what lies ahead for her. Hardly given any information about her ability, Captain gives Janie a box full of papers written by Martha Stubin that not only contains her secrets and past, but the positive and negative effects of helping others with their dreams. Although she may have a clue with what these effects are, Janie isn't so sure she is ready to confirm what she already knows.
With the intensity of the case and her outcome, Cabel isn't so sure he can handle the danger that Janie puts herself in, and their relationship begins to weaken. Will they be able to get through this case peacefully or will it tear them apart?
As a highly anticipated sequel to WAKE, FADE certainly lives up to expectations. Along with Janie, readers will be able to delve deeper into the enormity of Janie's ability and the strain that it causes not only on her but also on Cabel.
The simplicity of the writing and the creativity of the plot will leave an imprint of the reader, causing it to never FADE from their mind.

Beware: When reading this book you will be unable to put it down. I loved it! I stopped reading last night with about 50 pages to do and had to get back up and turn the light on and finish it! I highly recommend it! In the world of supernatural/paranormal Young Adult books this series stands apart from the others. Read it!!

This is the second book in the Wake series by Lisa McMann. The last information I was able to find said that the third book in the series "Gone" will be out next year some time. I couldn't find anymore plans for additional books in the series after that.
This book was a good addition to the series. It takes place shortly after Wake ended. The police have been getting occasional calls on their high school crime tip line that are worrisome; they point to the possibility of some serious sexual harassment happening in Janie's high school and the police think high school teachers might be involved. They want Janie and Cabel to keep an eye out and see if they find anything suspicious. Janie is making some progress in controlling her dreams but other things are happening that are disturbing to her. Her and Cabel continue to have to pretend they are not a couple in order to do their under cover spying at school which is putting stress on their relationship.
I found this book to be disturbing but well written. There is a lot of student/teacher sexual harassment going on. There is also a lot ofdiscussion of date rape drugs and their use; that actually might be good as to raise awareness as to the use of these drugs. It is a suspenseful read and moves quickly. The characters are easy to identify with and I felt like Janie is kind of getting a bum deal overall. Cabel is my favorite character by a long shot.
I really don't have any complaints about this book. People who find sexual crimes and drug use especially disturbing might want to stay clear. This book was more of a thriller, mystery than the last book. It is a good addition to the series and I am sure teen readers will be glued to the pages. It was again a quick read; it only took me 3 hours to finish the book. It is a testament to the book that I finished it in one sitting; the story really grabs you and pulls you right through. It is a complete story on its own but I think readers will want to read the first book in order to understand the background of all of the involved characters.
I look forward to reading "Gone" when it comes out.

Again, love the cover, and I think the third book in the series is awesome as well.
This is the second book in the YA series by Lisa McMann. The first was Wake and the third, Gone, will come out 2/9/2010. I think this series is being called the "Dream Catcher Series", but I could be mistaken.
After reading Wake, I had pretty low expectations for this book. Janie and her boyfriend Cabel are now working undercover at the high school to suss out a sexual predator who happens to also be a teacher at their school. Janie is using her new dream powers (she describes it as TiVo - she can pause and pan around the scene in a dream) to help with the investigation.
I thought that this book was a tad better than Wake and rated it at 3.5 stars. It was a very quick read at about 2 hours. I can't stand McMann's writing style. It is full of fragments (not that I am a grammar queen, far from it) and every paragraph. Has sentences. That end. Like. This. So, again, it was extremely choppy. At times, I would look at the dates and a few weeks or a month has gone by and we don't really know what happened during that time. I still have questions, mainly about Janie's relationship with her mother. Is there something more to it, or was it an easy way to allow Janie to come and go as she pleased? If so, not very creative from the author.
I was so glad that this book developed Janie and Cabel more. We know more about her powers, what she can do and the consequences of them. I really like Janie's friend, Carrie, but she was somewhat absent in this book. There is great information about being aware of date rape drugs. If you are uncomfortable with teens drinking and inappropriate sexual relationships, I would skip this one. There were definitely some creepy parts and it was a much darker book than the first.
Overall, it was a little better than okay and I will read Gone. I am interested in seeing where it will take us.
