LAPD Detectives are waiting for Investigative Journalist Jack McEvoy when he arrives home from work. They ask him questions about his relationship with Tina Portrero, a woman that Jack had a one-night stand with over a year ago. Ms. Portrero was found murdered, her neck broken. Since Jack is considered a person of interest in the case, he decides to use his investigative skills to dig into her death. He quickly finds that she has ties to four women who also died from internal decapitation. Is there a serial killer on the loose?

This is the third book in Michael Connelly's Jack McEvoy series. Jack has taken a job with Fair Warning, a consumer protection news website. He uses the job to find information on the DNA industry and the fact that it is more or less an unregulated industry. I found the information well written. The possible things that can be done when someone uses your DNA turns out to be kind of scary.

Once again, Jack teams up with former FBI agent Rachel Walling. She is now a private investigator and offers her help to Jack. I've never been a fan of this character. I always feel like she has her own agenda. Jack and Rachel find that they are on the trail or a serial killer who they need to stop before he kills again.

The pacing of this story started out a little slow. But it quickly picked up when Jack began digging into Tina Portrero's murder. I loved the mystery and had a hard time putting this book down. My rating: 5 Stars.

A Jack McEvoy story; he is a reporter from the Harry Bosch novels. EnjoyEd this book a lot. It was interesting finding where all of the reporter's leads would end up. Group page turner.

A really interesting contemporary plot theme concerning DNA and consumer privacy backs this thriller whose pacing, characterizations and texture all work very well. I like having a journalist instead of a P.I. as the main protagonist and mystery solver.

This is the sort of book that caused my reading addiction that began several years ago. What a pleasure it is to begin reading a book that grabs you within the first few pages and quickly becomes like a powerful magnet, extremely difficult to put aside even at the expense of a good night's sleep. Most of Connelly's books (and I've read and collected almost all 34 written to date) are like that and Fair Warning is no exception. Even if you are not a Michael Connelly fanatic like me, I highly recommend this one.

Starts slow but becomes hard to put down after a while. A reporter finds and reports on a serial killer using DNA to find his woman victims to kill.
