My niece loves this series and I read this on her recommendation. It was a fun story and really reminded me of Shrek, with all of the cameos from fairy tale characters. It is maybe a little too lightweight for adult readers, although I had no problem getting through it. It was a quick read and I am going to read the next one to see what happens. I think this is an outstanding series for preteens, so if you have a 10 or 11 year old who loves Harry Potter or Spiderwick or Percy Jackson, try this out on them.
