Very well written- thoroughly engaging characters, good tension between them, funny incidents as the h/h get to know each other. Marsali leads a rag tag clan of rebels without a brain for the most part; they have harassed the unwelcome Brits with clumsy and woebegon attacks.
The day comes, however, that the infamous "Black Duncan" is sent to whip his clan into shape- the prodigal returns and is treated to an especially embarassing assault for his trouble.
Wonderfully warm and vivid characters, consistent writing and excellent development. 5*

Pretty slow in the beginning but it picks up.

Duncan MacElgin, of the devil's own reputation and sinful past, has been forced to return home to his crumbling Scottish castle-only to be ambushed by a woman! Worse, the tartanclad female is impertinent, unrepentant, and beautiful.
