This book was a wonderful surprise. I've enjoyed Josh's writing in Guideposts for several years, so I picked it up at a library book sale. It is told in the no-nonsense voice of a boy who loves to run fast above all things. Just when he's excited about trying out for a traveling soccer team, they discover cancer in his leg. After it is amputated, he decides he will learn to run even though the doctors say it won't be possible. He accepts every personal disaster with humor and determination, but never self-pity. Finally he discovers skiing. He decides that he will be a ski racer because that allows him to go fast--and besides, it is sure to impress the girl he likes.
Loved the book, loved the kid.
