Beautiful writing, it flows like an endless slow-moving river. Hard to describe it, but well worth the read. It's the Irish potato-famine story in a completely new (and yes, somewhat mystical) way. It follows the members of the Foley family in a storytelling way. The title 'The Fall of Light' seems to be what you want to make of it. I made of it the fall of light over the land that drew them all.
The title says it all. He writes so beautifully and descriptively about earthly visions and human emotions.
