If you have not read this series, do not start with this book. I like this series but it took me a while to catch up on what is going on.
The hero, Cain, is losing the leaves from his life tree and getting close to the end. The only thing that can save him is finding his mate. The woman he thought could be his chose another as her partner which left Cain devastated. After his ward, Sybil, grew up and left to be on her own, Cain decided to dedicate the rest of his life to killing Demons.
When he found a woman fighting Demons in a dark alley, he jumped in to save her. When his Lucera neck collar reacted to her, it meant she could be his mate. This is our heroine, Rory, an absolute TWIT. She is fighting Demons while searching for the person to rid her of the visions that are blinding her. And when she touches Cain, the visions go away. Cain decides to stick close to Rory and protect her since she is a potential mate for him. Rory the TWIT doesn't want to have anything to do with him since she is too busy searching for the one who can stop the visions. duh!!!
This nonsense went on for 300 pages before Rory actually admitted Cain was the one. There were also chapters on Joseph and Tynan searching for the traitor at Dybir, the sentinel's home; on Ella, a woman rescued from the Demons, and her baby Tyler; Hope and Logan; and Justice. Ronan was a prominent part of this story also. The Demon Lord Raygh finally revealed his motives for going after Ronan, Rory, and Cain.
The biggest disappointment was not moving the storyline along. I will keep reading the series and hope for more information on these Races and where they came from and what their purpose is and what is happening with Tory. Hopefully the next heroine will have some working brain cells, maybe Justice or Sybil??
