Liz Carlye is one of my favorite authors. The only reason I am posting this book is because I have 2 copies! The story is about a cynical marquis and a talented artist. "Drawn by desire, Elliot and Evangeline discover a powerful love neither thought possible. But malevolent forces surround them and soon their secrets will be exposed and their hearts tested to unthinkable limits, etc."
I read this one "out of order" because I couldn't locate a copy when I needed it. But that was okay because it's a wonderful story and can stand alone without her other books. However, it does make me want to go back and re-read the others; i. e., "A Woman of Virtue," "Beauty like the Night," and "A Woman Scorned." In fact, I think I will. Liz Carlyle is simply wonderful.
A little wordy but an excellent love story. Troubled rogue- independent woman
This is an excellent book and one of my very favorites by this author.
Liz carlyle is always entertaining and this book is no exception! Just wish there were more writers as careful as she is with the language of the times and the sultry aspects of the story.
This is another good story from Liz Carlyle. I enjoyed reading it even though I felt that the secret identity thing for Rannoch was a bit of a stretch. For those who Kemble, he is in quite a bit of the book.
Liz Carlyle writes fully fleshed-out characters with heart and depth. The story is about Evangeline, a painter who is also raising her younger siblings and a cousin, and Elliot, a dissolute marquis posing as an untitled gentleman. The romance builds slowly as they meet with a misunderstanding and most of the book is the story of them falling in love but both of them hiding something.
This book, as with the other Liz Carlyle book I read, peters out a bit toward the end. While the characters are engaging and memorable, Carlyle takes too long to reach a resolution. There is too much inner dialogue and not enough action. That said, it is still a wonderful and well written book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.
