You don't typically see an author revisit a family that they already wrote about so as to tell a different version of their story, but that is exactly what happens here. Same characters, but some different sequences of events leading to some very different (or similar, as the case may be) outcomes. Meloy's writing style is very compelling, and the story once again quickly grew on me as a reader. Of course, there is quite a bit in the book that some might find objectionable, making it certainly not be a good choice for everybody, but it is otherwise worth checking out.
An odd little book, well written and an easy read. Author does not explore the depths of character, but I still felt as though I knew the characters and cheered for their futures. I will go back to find her previous novel and save this one for my daughter to read, so all in all a pretty high praise.
A quick, page turner. The family is engaging - the story - well, quite a story. The characters make some of the crazy choices we might wonder about. Lives are effected and the parallels with the main character's writings makes it curiously fun. Enjoyable and recommendable.
Good book. Very character driven though some of the relationships between the characters can be disturbing. all in all, a good and quick read.
