Gonna post this now to see how many people are interested. Not feeling well right now so I'm just putting the here as a sort of place holder so you all know I do intend to go ahead with it. Tomorrow afternoon or later I will post this in the fantasy forum and see if I can drum up some attention there as well. Until then can we do a roll call so I can get an idea of how many participants we've already got? Just post a aye or here or present so I'll know your in for the discussion please.

I can't guarantee I would read them all but I would likely participate. My interests don't cover the whole genre but at least half of it. I didn't get any response from the mystery group about the idea but it wouldn't hurt to try the fantasy group. I figured if we went ahead and did it we could still cross-post the voting lists and/or book choices and maybe someone would be interested in that particular book even if they don't respond to the idea in general. My mystery post had quite a few views, just no one responded. Made me think if it were more specific someone would bite. |

I'm here. I'll check back later. Hope you feel better Chris. |

Thanks Carol, being a girl is getting kinda old :/ Anywho I've got the list created, it was way harder to find posted books in the genre than in general but I opted to put a couple from my TBR that have sat for a while but were highly reccomended to me when I started out reading UF. The list is located here, go ahead and vote and add your own books. I'll say a minimum of five posted will be sufficient for the kick off. Off to post in the fantasy forum and then crawl back under my furry blanket and let my phenergan do it's work. Voting will end on Oct 10 and discussion will begin on Nov 15. Count me as a "maybe". It'll really depend on what book gets selected. I've read so much Urban Fantasy over the last few years that I'm sick of it. And I've never been a huge fan of PNR. I'll try to think of something good to nominate. It's harder than I thought it would be to come up with something good with several copies in the system.

Hello, I am interested as well, I put two sugestions on the list. Like everyone else a lot of my sugestions don't work because not enough copies are in the system.

I like fantasy too! Added a couple from my favorite author with not only lots of copies in various bindings, but also have audio books available. |

Yay! new people. Thanks for joining in y'all. I thought about adding Storm Front because Harry Dresden is by far one of my favorite characters but I read it a long while ago and I'm not a re-reader. If it wins out I may try to wing it from memory, or find a cliff notes, or maybe just reorder it and read it again then send it to my friend that I know will love it as much as I did. |

I've read Storm Front and Darkfever. I won't need to read those over. I voted for one and then found two that I could add. I thought about Watership down and couldn't find enough copies - odd for a book that's 40 years old. |

Finally found one to add. Michael beat me to adding Legend. |

Oooh, I loved Watership Down. Lots of things to discuss. |

I'm game for one of these. RL sucks so I haven't been down here much. Hopefully it's getting back to normal around here. :) Does it need to be a book with available copies here? I actually prefer to get my book from the library and not use my credits. But is there a general rule there must be enough copies on PBS for people to order? I have a few in mind but I don't know what the availability is like. Last Edited on: 9/15/12 10:41 AM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

We kind of aim to choose a book with 6-8 copies available in the system. I don't read much fantasy, but would give it a looksee. |
|||
|
|||
Jackie, yes, there needs to be enough copies here for all of us to order, but you don't have to use your credits if you can get them at the library. Deb said 6-8, but really there are 9 members right now, so at least 9 is preferable. That takes care of some of the time-outs that happen, not every listed book is available to ship. Sometimes we pick one that some of us already own, but there still needs to be enough for everyone else to order if they need to. |

I voted for a couple but there isn't anything on the list that made me go "ugh, blargh" so I'll read whatever's picked. |

Ok Storm Front won on the fantasy list. If anyone is still game for this discussion it will begin November 15th.

I'll be there/here for the discussion. :) Is there going to be a Mystery/Thriller genre discussion group? Mystery/Thillers are my favs. |

I think Barb might have talked about doing one. You could do one if you wanted to.

There were only I think 2 responses to a mystery book reading. I read probably half mysteries now (although my favorites, the Scandinavian authors, are unfortunately always WLed) so I'm willing if anyone else is. I would be happy to read or help run it. |

Yeah, I was reading the posts and seen where Barb had suggested a M/T group discussion. I was just asking cuz I'd join in as M/T's are what I read 99.9% of the time. I don't want to take anything away from you Barb. If you still want to setup and run it, I'll be glad to read and join in. ETA: I love the Scandanavian mysteries too. Just took Don't Look Back by Karin Fossum back to the library today and picked up Hakan Nesser's Borkmann's Point as it was on hold for me. I had already checked out Mind's Eye by Hakan Nesser. Now to read them. :) Last Edited on: 10/12/12 2:50 PM ET - Total times edited: 2 |

Oh you wouldn't be taking anything away from me, I'm not bothered either way. I would like there to be a mystery discussion and if need be I am willing to lead it but I have no attachment to doing so. I'm reading an Icelandic writer now, Black Skies by Arnaldur Indridison. Really good, unusual names. The lead detective character is named Sigurdur, his mom's casual name is Gabba, there's a bunch of weird ones I can't recall the spelling of offhand. I just got used to Swedish and Norwegian names! Jo Nesbo is my favorite, he's awesome. Henning Mankell is good too, and prolific. I read Black Seconds by Karin Fossum and thought it was sheer genius but then I read Broken and thought it kinda sucked. Great idea, boring book. Ok, I'll go ahead then and get it started. I'll probably have the voting up by tomorrow afternoon and post the details then. A few days ago I finished, Jar City (aka Tainted Blood) (Reykjavik, Bk 1) by Arnaldur Indridason Very good book, I'm looking forward to finishing the series. |
|||
|
|||
Ooh, I have Jar City, haven't read it yet. Too bad there aren't any in the system for anyone else. That's the only bad thing about book groups, my TBR pile isn't getting much smaller, lol. |
