A fine little book, full of information (Wax bosoms1? Who knew?) about fashions and accessories for men, women, and children from the late 18th century through about 1819. Profusely illustrated in color with pictures from the period, many from women's magazines. Useful explanations of terms I had always wondered about, like nankin. Many quotations from Jane Austen's letters and novels are used to illuminate the fashions. There's even a photo of a pelisse of Jane Austen's, though it might look more stylish (and less baggy) if shown on a mannequin. Two period pictures of Beau Brummel, and one of a Hussar wearing a fairly indecent pair of skintight pantaloons.
