In the past year or so, I've been reading translations of Hildegard of Bingen's works.  She is a fascinating Catholic nun who achieved notarity as a theologian, an herbalist, and a musician.  The descriptions of her visions are gorgeous and their meanings are deep and sometimes disturbing.  As an herbalist, she helped pioneer the way of medicine in her area.  When listening to recordings of her music sung in a traditional manner I feel uplifted.

Does anybody else have any favorites?  Who are they and from what religion?  And which of their works touched you deeply and why?

I have been reading the works of S. D. Gordon and find them very inspiring.  He had a "Quiet Talks" series that are easy to read but eye-opening.  I read "Quiet Talks on Prayer" and it really energized my prayer life.  Right now I am reading "Quiet Talks on Power" and learning a lot about the Holy Spirit.  One cool thing was that I got "Power" off PBS and it was a first edition from 1903.  I feel like it made a journey through time to come into my hands!

McKenna Briege's book "Miracles Do Happen" is interesting, I am also a fan of C.S. Lewis and I will throw out a favorite of mine....Derek Prince!  I love that guy, his books are wonderful.
