This book introduces us to Christopher Snow, who suffers from XP, a rare disease that makes him vulnerable to light. The death of his father sweeps him into a mystery involving his town, the local military base, and the dangerous experiments within...

Great Characters, GREAT BOOK!

I've read the other reviews about this book, and it seems that everyone so far has enjoyed this book and its sequel. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into this book. It seemed to drag on. In one early chapter the main character was being chased (in a chapter that just wouldn't end soon enough for me), and it was very reminiscent of a similar scene in Koontz's Odd Thomas books (I read the first 2 so far and have enjoyed them). Having liked the Odd Thomas books, I couldn't get over a very similar voice between the main character of those books and the main character in this book. Perhaps I am the "odd one" here, but I just did not get into this book.

In my opinion, the Christopher Snow books are the best work Dean Koontz has produced. Even if you don't like Koontz's usual thrillers, you might find you enjoy this book, and the sequel, "Seize The Night".

Overall, I enjoyed "Fear Nothing" more than the sequel, and much more than any other Koontz series.

The first book of the strange story of the boy who could not go out in sunlight. Great read, might want to get them both. The second book was Seize the Night.

This is a great read! One of my favorites by Koontz. A bit tamer (in a good way) from others by the same author but more intriguing and very interesting characters.

Awesome Awesome book - Dean Koontz does not fail to deliver engrossing tale of scientific experimentation. Keep me reading into the wee hours. Although book spans only 2 days in the life of a young man with the XP generic disorder, the writing keeps you reading to find out the outcome. Also make you think about where science is heading and possible outcomes from trying too hard. High recommend this novel - will keep you reading

I love it so much I'm selling it. It's Dean Koontz, and exactly what you'd expect. There's a magic dog, an odd character, genetic tampering, a disappointing ending...classic Koontz.

What a wonderful start to the first in the Moonlight Bay series. This book has some of Koontz's best writing and the characters are wonderful.

I have read this book and the sequel before but just had to revisit them. The other day I was perusing Amazon and happened to find a new 3 part serial of Odd Thomas that heralds the new Odd Thomas book. Anyway, it makes mention of Moonlight Bay and I went, "Oh yeah . . ." so here I am.

As one other member put it, this books reads much like the Odd Thomas series. And though I don't find myself connecting with Christopher Snow as much as the Odd One, I do enjoy his adventures. I thought that perhaps reacquainting myself with Moonlight Bay might be helpful in the coming of the rest of the O.T. serial. Fear Nothing and Seize the Night are good books that sometimes have points where the reading gets slow but that shouldn't prevent you from reading them.

This book is hard to put down. The story pulls you into the plot and holds you fast til the last page. The characters had real depth and most of them were nice people and love the pet dog alot.

As usual, Dean Koontz has come up with unusual characters and placed them in unusual predicaments. I have not read the follow up to this first Christopher Snow book but the character is interesting (as are Christopher's friends). That is the most compelling reason for reading this novel. I feel as if Mr. Koontz actually held himself back a bit while writing this one. The premise could have gone many places, which I assume is why he wrote a sequel.

Chris Snow suffers from xeroderma pigmentosum, aka XP, a condition which makes him vulnerable to skin cancer and eye problems. He cannot be in the light, especially the sun, cannot go out during the day. You might say he is allergic to the light. He is a night person. His father is dying from cancer and his mother was killed in a auto accident two years ago.

He keeps his house dark, lights with candles. When he goes over to the few friends he has, they dim their lights. It is by candlelight in the hospial that he visits his father just before his death. Later he wants to bury a picture of his mother with his dad and in the morgue he happens on a couple guys switching his dad's body before it was supposed to go to the funeral home.

Thus begins an adventure that is typical Dean Koontz, with Koontzian characters that are sometimes bizarre, sometimes crazy, sometimes shady and always very real. So real that you feel like you are running from the bad guys right along with Chris and his friends. And then there is Chris' highly intelligent dog Orsen and a whole passel (troup actually) of very bad monkees. How does Dean Koontz do it, write books as good as this?
