Haines goes a little more toward the realm of "huh?" with this story about a town that believes there is a werewolf on the loose. She also gets into the background of some characters and the book sometimes feels melodramatic. Set in 1943ish Louisiana in the bayou parish of Iberia, some of the Cajun/French speech pattern and words were difficult for this Connecticut Yankee to adjust to. A few unnecessary characters, though all the characters were likeable. I've enjoyed her other works so much more, but overall Fever Moon was a good read.
