I read this book in sixth grade (1973/74) It was from our classroom library. I could not put it down and when I rode the school bus home I missed my stop I was so caught up in it! It was one of my first experiences of thinking what it would be like to be a teenager someday (in those days an 11-year old was a pre-teen, not a 'tween) and I was just mesmerized to read about a girl in high school and dating, etc. I think there was a scene involving a Chinese restaurant and that was something I had never experienced either. This book is a fond memory and it may be a nice read for other little girls who are growing up. Beverly Cleary is a favorite writer for this age group and she rarely disappoints.
Helpful Score: 1
This was my FAVORITE book all throughout my pre-teen years. It's perfectly suited for a young girl who can't wait to grow up, have her first boyfriend, her first kiss... And, Moms, don't worry, it's age-appropriate too!
This is one of my many favorite books out of my collection. This story is about a teenagers life and how she cops with love, friends, family, and reality
It seems too good to be true. The most popular boy in school has asked Jane out-and she's never even dated before. Stan is tall and good-looking, friendly and hardworking-everything Jane ever dreamed of. But is she ready for this? If only she were ready for all the ways her "first love" will affect her.
for adolescent girls.
This is a very good book that everyone should read!!
My mother in law liked it.
