Typical Morrell, opens fast but slows down a bit toward the end. It has a slightly more international feel than a lot of his books, as the latter portions are set in Japan. A decent thriller.

From the back of the book "Two masters of protection. One desperate mission.

Savage, a former Navy SEAL and American state-of-the-art security specialist. Akira, Japan's most brilliant executive protector and a master of the samurai arts.

Their mission: the retrieval of Rachel Stone, a beautiful American woman whose ruthless billionaire husband is out to destroy her. But quickly Savange and Akira realize they are trapped in a mission more far-reaching than teh protection of one person.

For they are bound together in a common nightmare, a set of horrifying memories, a terrifying past that never happened, but is somehow inexpolicably real. Only together can they confront the mystery. Yet when they do, an even more chilling scenario awaits them - one with the power to shatter not only their world, but ours as well."

It's been so long since I read this book. I just remember that it's a very good action/suspense book.

If you loved Morrell's Brotherhood of the Rose trilogy (Brotherhood of the Rose, Fraternity of Stone, League of Night & Fog), you'll enjoy this tale of a body guard/protector. Savage is wronged by his agency and he's looking for answers. The Fifth Profession is heavily themed with the Japanese samurai story 47th Ronin. A page-turner!

From David Morrell, bestselling author of First Blood, Assumed Identity, Extreme Denial, and Burnt Sienna, comes a spectacular thriller that takes the reader beyond the limits of suspense....

TWO MASTERS OF PROTECTION. ONE DESPERATE MISSION.

Savage is a former Navy SEAL and state-of-the-art security specialist. Teaming up with him is Akira, Japan's most brilliant executive protector and a samurai master. Their mission: to rescue Rachel Stone, a beautiful American woman who faces destruction at the hands of her ruthless billionaire husband.
Savage and Akira quickly realize they are trapped in a mission more far-reaching than saving one woman. For they are bound to each other by a set of horrifying memories, a terrifying past that never happened. And only together can they confront the nightmare. Yet when they do, an even more chilling scenario awaits them - one with the power to shatter not only their world but ours as well.

Another excellent book from Morrell. Here he examines the life of a professional body guard, and it isn't like the Whitney Huston-Kevin Costner movie! Morrell did his research at G. Gordon Liddy's training school for bodyguards. It's not for the faint of heart. This book is another fast paced, edge-of-your seat read by Morrell and was a great read! Couldn't put it down!
