One of the best Mankell's and that is saying a good deal. A real puzzler. Highly recommended!

I love the Scandinavian mystery writers and Mankell is one of my favorites. The Fifth Woman kept me reading. It was difficult to put the book down. Mr Mankell develops his characters so the reader really gets to know what makes them tick. All except the murderer. Tyhere one's not quite sure. Althought the location name are foreign the average reader, he/she gets a real feel for the country. it's weather, it's gepgraphy, and the inhabitants.

Intense and fast paced but never fast enough for Wallander!
You will keep reading way past your bedtime with this book. Excellent.

Social issues and society are a big discussion through out the book.
Seems it's the same in just about any country.
Wallander doesn't seem to know what direction he wants his life to take next and is continuing to try and figure it out.
