Yet another page turner in the life of Sir John.... I don't know how Bernard Knight does it but he really pulls me into his story. In this one, Sir John has his ups and downs as usual, but---as he generally does---things come out on top for him in the end. Plus there some important news for Thomas, the doleful, disgraced priest, and a helping hand too.

The story starts out with a tournament scene that seems unrelated to the story, but as the mystery Crowner John is involved in solving unwinds it becomes clear that it's an integral part of the story. Chivalric code be damned when there's other passions to be served.

I'm always thankful of my current place in time as I read about the lifestyle and the justice system of the medeival period. A fast read.
